This type of agricultural is practiced in the monsoon lands of Asia. Rice is a traditional staple food crop. Farms are generally small with no wasted land or fallow. Inheritance customs whereby the land is divided and passed on the children within INA famil has led to fragmentation and reduction in size of holdings in many parts of Asia. Farms may be no more than I hectare in size. Because is type of farming is labour intensive and many fields yield two crops per year productive per hectare is high. In some parts of Asia rural population densities may be as high as 200 per km but the standard of living is low.
