Extensive grain production is found on the north american prairies the steepes of Eurasia the veldets of south Africa Canterbury plains if new Zealand some parts of western Europe Downs in south east Australia in Argentina. Some state farms in northern China also fit into this category. These areas have a relatively restricted growing season with low precipitation. Characteristically farms are very large often over 1000 hectares. In all regions except China very lityile labour is required as the production is very capital intensive. Productivity per hectares is low but per farm worker. It is high!!!!!
