Cotton is the world most important natural fiber. In the year 2011 the global yield was 27 million tons from 35 million hectares cultivated in about 66 countries.
Syenthicor artificial fibers can be made by extruding a polymer through a spinneret into a medium where a it hardens. Rayon's acetate and triacetate nylons and polyesters are some major artificial fibers. All these fibers will be of great length often kilometres long. Artificial fibers can be processed as long fibers or batched and cut so they ca be processed like a natural fiber.
